Policy Priorities
Protecting civil rights and equal protections for all Oregonians
As we move into 2025, I am committed to working towards the protection of our hard earned civil, gender and reproductive rights. This includes women, Asians, Pacific Islanders, Native Hawaiians, Black, LGBTQ+, immigrant, refugees, older adults and those with disabilities. Through my work over twenty (20) years in Oregon, I have committed to educating policy makers about Oregon’s diverse community, trained employers on how to be more inclusive, helped in passing bills to protect vulnerable communities, and advocated for more equitable practices.
Ensuring all Oregonians have access to quality public education
As Vice Chair of Portland Community College, I have been honored to represent our community at the state and national levels, advocating for increased investment in education to strengthen opportunities for all. Through my work with the Oregon Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (OCAPIA), I successfully championed the introduction of ethnic studies in classrooms—ensuring our students see themselves reflected in their education (HB2023). Additionally, I was proud to support the passage of a critical measure that provides services, training, and evaluation to help incarcerated parents and their children build stronger futures (SB 939). These achievements represent a commitment to education, equity, and the well-being of our community.
Enhancing public safety
I am proud to have advocated for a landmark effort to improve access to affordable housing—because a safe and stable home is the foundation for security and opportunity in our community (SB 1533A). As we navigate a rapidly evolving technological landscape, I am committed to addressing cyber and internet security to ensure our residents are protected not only physically safe in their neighborhoods but also financially and emotionally safe in the digital world. Additionally, I am deeply honored to contribute to the work of Oregon Rises Above Hate, leading events and initiatives that have raised awareness and driven action to combat hate crimes across our state. Together, these efforts reflect my unwavering dedication to building safer, stronger, and more inclusive communities for all.
Growing our economy by supporting local businesses and workforce planning
As the Executive Director of Partners in Diversity under the Portland Business Alliance (PBA) now known as the Portland Metro Chamber, I worked to foster meaningful partnerships that helped Oregon employers create more inclusive and equitable workplaces. Through initiatives like Say Hey!, which connected professionals from across the state, and our Breakfast for Champions series, where we tackled key issues like recruitment and retention which plays a vital role in employer success. When our employers thrive, it allows our community to thrive.
Protecting the future of Older Adults and individuals with Disabilities
Oregon’s future depends on how we support older adults and individuals with disabilities—ensuring they thrive with dignity, opportunity, and respect. As our state undergoes a historic demographic shift, we must act decisively to address the challenges and opportunities of an aging population and a growing community of individuals with disabilities. I am committed to advocating for comprehensive policies that promote financial security, independence, and social inclusion, ensuring every Oregonian, regardless of age, ability, gender, religion, or background, can fully participate in our communities. By partnering with diverse coalitions—healthcare providers, housing advocates, and disability rights organizations—I will fight for investments that prepare Oregon for these changes. Together, we can value the wisdom and contributions of older adults and empower individuals with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. These are not niche issues; they are matters of justice and humanity that affect every family and Oregon’s future.
